Consumers complained that the vehicle suddenly downshifted when traveling at high speed, causing the vehicle to rapidly slow down. This increased the risk of an accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 138 complaints from consumers about F-150s between model years 2015 and 2017. Some customers have also complained about unplanned downshifts. They claim that the vehicle’s wheels lock up temporarily when it drops to a lower gear, making it difficult to control. No accidents or injuries have yet to be reported.
A Ford spokesperson said the issue is related to the trucks' six-speed transmission, and the automaker is "working with NHTSA to support its investigation. "
Ford began the investigation after recalling more than 240,000 Explorers in February due to improperly fastened seatbelts. Earlier this month, Ford was forced to recall as many as 12,833 Bronco Sport or Mavericks because of repair issues.
