Students who have enrolled in income driven repayment plans for their student loans will soon see more changes.
The Department of Education stated Monday that they are reworking their income-driven payment (IDR) plans. The new method will make it easier for borrowers to enroll in IDR plans, and they will no longer be required to recertify their income each year.
The department reopened IDR applications less than a week after the reworked IDR plan was released. The department originally removed the application when the administration claimed that a court decision in the legal battle to stop the Saving for a Valuable Education Plan called into question other IDR Plans.
The closure prevented borrowers from enrolling in the more affordable repayment options, and some were unable to recertify their IDR plans.
A press release from the Department states that more information on the new IDR will be released next week.
